Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs

Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs is a cross-border exchange programme which gives new or aspiring entrepreneurs the chance to learn from experienced entrepreneurs running small businesses in other European Union countries. The exchange of experience takes place during a stay with the experienced entrepreneur, which helps the new entrepreneur acquire the skills needed to run a small firm.

What is funded:

The financial support to new entrepreneurs contributes to travel and subsistence costs during the visit. The grant is paid by the local contact point chosen by the new entrepreneur (registered in the online application). The new entrepreneur and his/her local contact point sign an agreement which determines the funding granted during his/her stay, and how it will be paid in practice (e.g. partial payment at the beginning of the stay, monthly payment, etc). The financial support is calculated monthly and reflects the overall living costs of the country of stay.

How the programme works

The contact between new entrepreneurs and host entrepreneurs is done through the local contact point, the Career Services Office, whose role is to support all candidates as soon as they express their interest in participating until the final completion of the exchange.

All interested parties should fill in an application for participation in the Programme through the website www.erasmus-entrepreneurs.eu but also contact directly the Career Services Office that will , help you establish a successful relationship with a suitable entrepreneur as well as providing you with all the answers to your questions.

Who can participate

  • New entrepreneurs, firmly planning to set up their own business or have already started one within the last three years;
  • Experienced entrepreneurs who own or manage a Small or Medium-Sized Enterprise in the EU.

Benefits

As a new entrepreneur, you will benefit from on-the-job training in a small or medium-sized enterprise elsewhere in the European Union. This will ease the successful start of your business or strengthen your new enterprise. You can also benefit from access to new markets, international cooperation and potential possibilities for collaboration with business partners abroad.

  • Building self-confidence and skills: sector-specific knowledge or know-how, technical and management skills;
  • Opportunities for collaboration with other entrepreneurs and the development of cross-border business co-operation;
  • Networking and building of strong relationships, which can be useful for mutual consulting, business referrals, and for finding business partners abroad;
  • Insights into different cultural and organisational settings and how companies function in another European Union country;
  • Insights into the business environment of another European Union country
  • Improved language skills;

As a host entrepreneur, you can benefit from fresh ideas from a motivated new entrepreneur on your business. He may have specialised skills or knowledge in an area you do not master, which could also complement yours. Most host entrepreneurs enjoyed the experience so much that they decide to host other new entrepreneurs afterwards.

  • Work with an energetic and motivated new entrepreneur who can contribute to your business with innovative views, new skills and knowledge;
  • Benefit from a "fresh eye" on your business, and specialised knowledge that the new entrepreneur may have and that you do not master;
  • Act as a coach or mentor;
  • Learn about foreign markets, expand your business opportunities and engage in cross-border activities;
  • Interact with entrepreneurs from other EU countries and get opportunities to collaborate with them;
  • Network and build strong relationships, which can be useful for mutual consulting, business referrals, and for finding business partners abroad;
  • Improve your language skills;
  • The large majority of most entrepreneurs enjoyed the experience so much that they decided to host other new entrepreneurs afterwards!

It is really a win-win collaboration whereby both of you can also discover new European markets or business partners, different ways of doing business.
On the longer-term, you will benefit from wide networking opportunities, and, possibly, decide to continue your collaboration, possibly as long-term business partners (e.g. joint ventures, sub-contracting activities, contractor-supplier relationships, etc).
