The aim of the General Secretariat for Industry is:
a) To prepare a National Strategy in the manufacturing sector, to devise measures and to implementactions aiming to promote the competitiveness, entrepreneurship and productivity of SMEs and businesses in general
b) To contribute to sustainable development, reconstruction of the country’s production process, the environmental protection and the improvement of citizens' quality of life
c) To help establish and apply measures regarding the production and marketing of specific categories of industrial products and/or services whose use could pose risks to the health and safety of citizens
d) To create an appropriate business environment/infrastructure for businesses
e) To support businesses in the production and marketing of products and services
f) To contribute to regional and well-balanced development.
The General Secretariat for Industry is responsible for:
a) Boosting investment and employment
b) Supporting and encouraging entrepreneurship
c) Promoting business partnerships
d) Contributing to integrating new technologies into the production process and the provision of services
e) Enhancing the technological modernization of the manufacturing sector, the industry and businesses in general and for promoting the best available techniques and methods for manufacturing goods and providing services
f) Helping develop the knowledge society, including know-how transfer and integrating technological and non-technological innovation into the production process
g) Providing institutional support to SMEs
h) Improving the qualifications of human capital working in firms
i) Contributing to improving the business environment, simplifying the legislative framework and cutting back red-tape
k) Ensuring that manufacturing enterprises operate under conditions that guarantee the health and safety of employees and the people living around the premises and contribute to reducing the environmental impact caused by their operation
l) Ensuring that planned and reasonable use of land is made for development purposes
m) Surveilling the market on matters falling within the competence of the General Secretariat for Industry.
